I can’t get enough of Lobster Orange.  Put that against Malachite blue and I’m in heaven.  The contrast is what I’m after.  I need to feel some tension, a pull.  Which way to go.  Lines enter and cross to offer me opportunities.  Projects.  Appointments.  Get-to’s.  All pull on us everyday.  How do you ascend to take it all in and discern?

Encaustic has the wonderful ability to show the history of a painting.  If you look closely you can see where I’ve painted over colors creating a transparent effect.  In other places I’ve scratched in lines where I can inlay dark color for that push and pull of contrast.

Icarus is 48″ x 48″ x 1.5″.  A big board as I like to say.  Scaling up means I have to scale my tools also.  Pots, brushes, amount of medium and paint all grow in size.  The floor becomes my easel as I walk around to check the composition from every angle.  A walkabout in my own studio!

XOXO
